Once again I didn't get my holiday card finished in time for the holidays. This is the WIP. Maybe next year I'll get it painted.I've been sitting in a lot of doctor's offices lately with my elderly aunt so I decided to start knitting again. We all needed new stockings so that was my first project, starting in late November. I got 3 out of 5 finished. I'll have the ones for the husband and me done

I found an open studio nearby. The current session started a week ago Monday. I love it. The model was so-so this week, but a bad day drawing beats a good day doing anything else.This drawing is from week 2 -- charcoal on paper.

Finally getting around to posting some pages from my sketch book and photos. No photography was allowed at the Brandywine River Museum or NC Wyeth's studio, and they keep you moving so fast no time to draw. Only got a picture of the Brandywine River outside the museum. Sketches and other photos are from Longwood Gardens.

Anonymous asked if the Russian in the video I referred to in my previous post is actually Russian. As far as I know he is not. He is well-known author Paul Davidson who writes for Wired magazine and has just released a new book, The Lost Blogs. He's a very funny guy who does funny books and accents very well.

On May 6th my husband and I went to a star gaze sponsored by the No. Virginia Astronomy Club. It was held at a state park in Fauquier County. I drew this farmhouse just outside the park while I was working at the gate.

So much for posting a drawing or painting every day. The next 3 weeks are going to be crammed with deadlines so I probably won't have time to pick up a sketchbook. I had a few minutes last night so I did a couple of quick sketches of my Tibetan Spaniel, Bebe, who was curled up asleep on her favorite blanket on the couch. Graphite in a generic, acid free sketchbook was used.

I went to a Draw In at the Smithsonian's Naturalist Center today. I've never been to one of their Draw Ins, so my husband and I stopped in on our way to visit my mother-in-law. I only had about a half hour to look around and do a few quick sketches. Next time they have one I'll definitely make sure I have more time to spend there. They have a lot of specimens available. Thank you for all of the positive comments about the aspargus. Linda asked about the paper I used -- The drawing was done in a sketch book I bought some time ago that I'm filling up so I can move on to a nice Fabriano and a Moleskine that my husband gave me for Christmas. The paper is smooth, acid free, and probably about 50 lb. Not the best for Nupastel, but I added the color as an afterthought.

I decided to try out some of the Christmas presents my husband gave me -- Some water brushes and a Blue Bean portable watercolor case. Took a brain-break from the computer and sketched one of the bottles siting around my desk and painted the washes with the waterbrushes. I'm pretty impressed. The pans in the Blue Bean rewet pretty well. Can't wait to take it on the road when the weather warms up.

My main reason for entering the world of blogging is to make myself draw and paint. I went through a period of time not long ago when I was not feeling myself (I was so crabby I was starting to annoy myself) and finally came to the conclusion that my main problem was that I was not creating art.
